Tricare Dental Plan (TDP) is a free dental insurance program. Dental benefits are administered by United Concordia and are available to active duty family members, National Guard and Reserve members, and their dependents. It is available in the continental United States (CONUS) and overseas (OCONUS).

To register for TDP, your sponsor must remain on contract for at least 12 months at the time of registration. Family members are spouses and children under 21 (or under 23 for full-time students). You subscribe for 12 months.
There are two costs associated with TDP, monthly bonuses and price promotions. Monthly premiums are based on sponsor status and number of insured persons (individual or family). Payment is based on the service provided, the sponsor's salary level, and the location (CONUS/OCONUS) of treatment.
Reward - "Pay it forward" program; Kh. You pay this monthly premium for next month's insurance. If you're on active duty, you can set a quota to cover rewards, and set up recurring payments from your checking account or credit/debit card.
If you do not pay the monthly premium, the insurance cover will end and you will not be able to enroll for another 12 months.

A copay is what you pay out of pocket for certain services. Your cost sharing depends on your salary level and whether you live in CONUS or OCONUS. The table below shows the payment percentages.
The TDP contract year runs from May 1 to April 30. The maximum annual payment is $1,500 per person per contract year for non-orthodox services. Fees for certain diagnostic and preventive services do not count toward the annual maximum.
There is a lifetime maximum of $1,750 for orthodontic treatment. If a member uses orthodontic services, the fees for those services will not exceed $1,750.
In the OCONUS supply area, the state bears all costs in excess of the authorized fee up to the amount of the fee received. This applies to all Special Entrants except Selected Reserve and IRR family members and IRR members (except Mobilization category).

If an existing family plan is in effect, children are automatically enrolled on the first day before their 1st birthday. If the existing plan covers only one family member, the premium will change from the individual plan to the family plan rating.

The Tricare Active Duty Dental Program is available to active duty members who are sent to a dental facility for treatment at a civilian dental community or within 50 miles of a dental facility.

If you are referred from a dentist to a private dentist for specialized treatment, you pay nothing for the treatment if you go to an in-network dentist. If you choose an out-of-network dentist, you are responsible for your treatment. If there is no network dentist, you must contact United Concordia to confirm.
If you are remote (more than 50 miles from a dental clinic or serving within the United States), a Wounded Warrior, or covered by TAMP, you are eligible for remote care. You can contract for all routine dental services for less than $750 per treatment or less than $1,500 for a total treatment if completed within a year (such as a root canal). You must contact United Concordia for confirmation. If you need a specialty treatment, treatment that costs more than $750 per procedure or appointment, a total cost of more than $1,500, or visits to an out-of-network dentist, your dentist must be licensed by United Concordia.
