Sig 365xl Reviews - For users who want a shorter (or longer) grip, the grip module is a 30-second swap. It is also not a serialized component, unlike many weapons.

For many people on the Internet, this — or a pistol configured like it — is the gun they claim to carry every day.

In the late twenties, the Tactical Meta evolved into a full-sized pistol holding fifteen to twenty rounds, often fitted with a red dot sight and often attached to a full size weapon light. It's certainly a capable pistol: it's very easy to shoot, it allows accurate fire all the way to the food court, and it has enough capacity to pass the USPSA stage.

Some of these people on the internet have real explosive PHLSTER floodlights from time to time. Most people, however, do not carry it all the time. There are various reasons for this. Guns configured like this are heavy. They are also large (over six inches long on my PDP with a red dot sight), and often compromise concealment and comfortable carrying.

Above all, they are difficult to hide. Note that I said hidden and not covered. Some people can't stand others seeing their guns, and getting one has real consequences beyond liberating Starbucks patrons. To me, there is a very real danger that some very motivated people who should not own a firearm may acquire one. For others, it could mean losing a job or even getting arrested.

But what if I want the capability of a full-sized gun in that environment? Enter the SIG P365XL. This article is something of a long gun review.

We all have standards for ourselves. As with anything else, the mission drives the weapon selection train. When choosing a weapon to carry, we must be aware of these criteria - otherwise, we are left with unsolicited emotions. For me, I feel the following are the things to do when carrying a gun:

Shooting Ronnie Dodd's introduction to reactive shooting with the P365XL. Most classes use Glock 19 or larger pistols.

Some of the things I use to measure this performance are the Super Test and Test, as well as running the No Fail Shot Drill at 15 yards and shooting the Fast Test in less than 7 seconds. The P365XL can do all of these things. This was done through two weapons training courses and several informal organized training days. It can shoot in the high 90s on a B8 at 25 yards. The last fast I shot with it was 6.31 clear. It does all of these things in a package that is much larger than the J-Frame.

The P365 is the size of the J-Frame. It also holds twice the ammo and is much easier to shoot.

The minimum size of the J-Frame is an important point. The size and portability of the gun gives me no reason to go smaller. The size and weight of the P365XL means I can easily carry deep hides with a PHLSTER Enigma, cozy hideouts around the house with a Darkstar Gear Hitchhiker, and hiking with a Blackhawk T- Series. If I felt the need to carry a pocket (I don't), I could just add the required P365 slide and grip module to get a gun that is actually smaller than the S&W 642.

At least for me, I can hide this gun anywhere without a metal detector. I can also shoot it up on a large scale with my full size guns.

The P365XL is smaller in every dimension than the Glock 19 - and no harder to shoot.

The P365XL carries three rounds of the Glock 19, a traditional CCW standby for many. While I wouldn't say the P365XL is

It's not at all difficult to score a round in the 19. Unlike something like a Ruger LCP or S&W 642 — both weapons that many users find very difficult to shoot well — the P365XL never prevent the user. These are slower bullets than the Glock 43s and S&W Shields that the Micro-9s replaced in this class.

The P365 family is "modular" like its big brother, the P320. The serialized trigger group can be changed to different grip models, and the user can change the slide and barrel length. This means I can upgrade to a Borsight solution grip without losing my gun for months. I don't run a stippling business, but I think being able to sell custom grip frames is a lot easier than dealing with acquiring guns. From a customization point of view, modularity is a win for users and manufacturers.

My next step is to continue working with a manual safety. My carry gun currently has no safety. I had to spend a few months on my practice gun to get comfortable. Manual safes aren't for everyone, but are an advantage for those who find SIG makes it easy to add them.

The excellent Holoson 407K can be installed in the pistol. Red dots provide the same advantages to microguns as they do to larger guns.

The P365XL Shield is trimmed for the RMS-C footprint. This means that the user can add a red dot if they want. With the latest release of the P365X, factory options are available for either slide length to be equipped with a red dot. And like many other modern firearms, there are standard aftermarket slides available. Thus the user has the ability to use a modern viewing system if they wish. About the only knock I can give the factory kit is the lack of a rear sight (although most MicroRDS are now integrated).

The P365XL has a rail, albeit an odd one. There are two semi-critical WMLs available for the user to choose which to add. I am of the opinion that neither light is what I want the WML to do, and more that the WML will harm some of the portability of the gun. However, the option is there. A consumer can build a reliable do-it-all handgun with a Surefire XSC, a Holoson 507K, and some 15-round magazines.

SIG has been notorious over the years for using users as beta testers, outsourcing to save a few cents, and shipping with poor quality control. I'm not here to argue with that. All I can say is that my carry gun is reliable. This includes over 300 rounds of my Carry Federal 147gr HST (and 80 rounds of Underwood Extreme Defender 90gr+P). There was one instance where I held the gun too high and pressed the slide release, causing the slide to snap back while firing. Unfortunately, I can't say that my practice gun has the same track record.

My practice gun fails to pick up the problem around the 3300 round mark. This continues through several types of ammo. Finally, I sent the gun to SIG - who replaced the extractor and FCU. After the gun was retrieved there were two retrieval failures. I saw these incidents happen in a magazine. Taking that magazine out of the equation and replacing the recoil spring (which SIG apparently doesn't do) seemed to fix the writing problem. I find that there is no generally considered reason for failure to obtain. However, this particular gun exhibits an unacceptable level of reliability and fidelity that requires me to demonstrate it.

Rust is also a problem, albeit less so. No gun is rusted but some of my magazines are. I don't know who SIG uses for the magazines, but the finish they use is not the same as other manufacturers. A recent trip to the Gulf Coast produced rust inside two of my carry-on magazines. Last year, I also found a little rust on the outside of the magazine. In all cases, the surface rust is easily removed. However, for those of us used to Glock magazines, this is a new concern.

I'm so glad I got the P365XL last year. The gun can shoot and carry all day. While it's not without its issues, overall I think the P365XL is a prime example of the Micro-9s category and a good choice for most CCWers. Give it a try - you might be surprised how well it can fit into your daily routine.
