Glock 17 Gen 4 Mos - USA –-()- New from Glock at the 2016 SHOT Show was the Glock 17 MOS Pistol or Modular Optic System. It's an evolution of the Glock 17 Gen 4, but with a few new surprises.
As far as I can tell, the dimensions of the Glock 17 Gen 4 and the Glock 17 MOS are identical. Overall length is 7.95 inches, width is 1.18 inches, and height is 5.43 inches. According to published specifications, the barrel in the MOS is also 4.49 inches long. Actually, the only difference I see is the view radius. The MOS has a sight radius of 6.61 inches compared to the Glock 17 Gen 4's 6.49 inches.

Apparently the rear sight was placed just a hair further on the slide to make room for the optic mount cutout.

The Glock 17 MOS pistol comes with three 17-round magazines and a standard Glock magazine loading tool. So if you take them all and add them to one chamber, that's 52 rounds of 9mm,
However, there are some obvious differences. Let's look. Glock Modular Optical System (MOS)
Glock MOS models are factory manufactured with a slot cut in the top of the slide just forward of the rear sight dovetail. The hole is only two inches long and maybe 3/16 inch deep if you remove the cover or mounting plate. The gun is coming
A plate has been installed that completely fills this gap, so that the Glock 17 MOS looks like a regular Glock 17 Gen 4 pistol at first glance, except for the visible seams.

Even the serrations on the slide extend all the way to the breech, so the feel of the breech will be the same as a stock Glock.
Even the sliding serrations extend over the cap of the Glock 17 MOS, so the feel of putting the cap on will be the same as a standard Glock.
To mount the optics directly on the slide, simply remove the cover plate and replace it with one of the four included adapters. These boards are clearly numbered one through four and are cut with posts and holes specific to the various optical mounting systems.
To test the Glock 17 MOS pistol, I used a Trijicon RMR RM01 with a 3.25 MOA red dot.

The procedure for installing the optics is quite simple. Unlike some other optical guns, there are two levels of mounts that attach with screws.
First, remove the cover plate from the mounting area using the included Torx wrench. You'll notice that the optical adapter board kit comes with four different boards as noted above. It also includes four shorter screws than those securing the cover plate. You only need two screws, so I assume two are just spares. They are shorter because the height of the mounting plate is only half that of the cover plate. This makes sense because when installed the base of the optic will be lower than the top of the slide.
Keep the longer cover screws in a safe place in case you want to get rid of the optics and reinstall the panel in the future.
Next, select the correct plate and use the shorter screws to attach it to the slide, again using the included Torx key. This is the first level of reinforcement.

You will then remove all the rail supports from your optical system and place it on the adapter plate you just installed. As far as I can tell, most, if not all, optics will mount with their own screws, as the screw holes on different boards are different sizes.
I'm really stuck with the temporary RMR mount because the screws that came with my tall RMR were too long. Only worse. make sure you have all the correct parts before planning your first ride. Fire the Glock 17 MOS pistol
Using the gun-mounted sight is quite convenient, but takes some getting used to. Most new opticians will struggle
Easy. I wish I could remember who gave me this advice, but the best advice I got on the subject was to forget the red dot ever existed. You're just looking for the front sight the way your brain has already been conditioned. If you just do that instead of looking for the red dot, it will magically move right into your line of sight.
G19 Gen 4 Mos Compact
As with anything else, it takes some repetition, so practice switching the rifle from a low position to the correct sight picture and you'll get the hang of it in no time.
I noticed right away that the factory sights on the Glock 17 MOS will not shoot through the optic, at least not with the RMR. The sights on this model are standard Glock sights and fall below the scope through the optics. On the plus side, there are no obstacles blocking the optical lens. On the other hand, if your optical system breaks, you have to resort to aiming along the top of the slide. If the scope is important to you, it's easy enough to swap out the factory Glock sights for something a little bigger.

The additional two do not offer any new dimensions. Instead, they are formed by sharply elongated fragments. I tried one and realized I really liked it. You can raise your shooting arm as far as you want without worrying about slipping.

I looked at the Glock 17 MOS pistol from a concealed carry perspective and found it not too difficult to install the new model with the optic installed. Most of the cases I tried were perfectly compatible. You can certainly carry a Glock 17 MOS pistol, and many people carry a G17 of one kind or another. With a taller grip, longer barrel, longer slide, and added power, the Glock 17 MOS would make a great competition or home defense rifle.
