Of course, nothing is certain with mechanical devices, but the steps I will share here will ensure that you are doing your part and doing your part to reduce the chance of a fatal or life-threatening accident. Each time you replace a component (before it fails), record the date and number of cycles, and record the target number of cycles for the next replacement. Watch and record the round count every time you shoot your pistol. When the count exceeds the appropriate limit for the life of a particular part, replace it and continue. Let's take a moment to look at the life of the components.
First and foremost, clean your Glock every time you shoot it. Keep this item as clean as new and it will last longer. I also recommend cleaning the full detail every 2,000 rounds as it takes several times to get the internals alarmingly dirty. As with all things pistol maintenance, I tend to err on the side of caution rather than luck.
My Glock 19 is 2 years and 55,000 rounds later. So far, I've replaced the recoil spring, trigger spring, and slide stop spring several times, and replaced the extractor, magazine retention spring, trigger spring, and spring cup once each. For a thorough cleaning, disassemble the Glock to this point and thoroughly clean each part. Make sure each part is completely dry before reinstalling.

Except for replacement, remove the magazine catch and spring or slide lock spring, as this can damage and weaken the springs.
I recommend using only dry Q-tips or other dry materials to clean the slide cavities for the striker and extractor. You don't want even the slightest wet surface in your forward channel. Regardless of how you clean the rest of the parts, be sure to dry them completely with a dry patch before reinstalling.
Parts requiring extra attention for really dirty parts include the extractor (especially the blade edge/tube), the firing pin safety piston, and the firing pin action. I use rem oil wipes or a patch soaked in rem oil to dig into those areas with my fingers to completely remove the ammo residue.

There is no way to know when a component is failing in any weapon. Therefore, liability requires that parts be replaced at recommended cycle count intervals. Better to replace parts before you believe you need to!
Most small Glock parts are very cheap and I recommend always having two on hand for each Glock you own. That way, when you fail - and if you practice a lot, you will fail - you can replace it without having to order it and wait for it to arrive.
Glock pistols have some parts that wear out faster than others and need to be replaced regularly. These include the recoil spring assembly, trigger spring, slide lock spring, and magazine retention spring.
The recoil spring is the foundation of your pistol. There are many considerations and priorities for when to replace the recoil spring a) prevent cycling problems and b) prevent breaking the locking block pin. I recommend replacing the recoil spring every 3,000 to 5,000 rounds (under high pressure) for the .40 Cal and .357 Sig. For .380, 9mm, .45, and 10mm, I recommend changing every 5,000 to 10,000 rounds.

Glock factory recoil springs. I've tried a few more and none of the non-Glock-OEM recoil springs have gone over 1,000 rounds before breaking or causing cycling issues. Many other non-OEM parts can work very well on a Glock, but I don't think a Glock recoil spring can be replaced if you're concerned about reliability. Here, again, your mileage may vary. Retractable bow assemblies typically cost between $7 and $20. You might consider replacing the locking block pin periodically every 30,000 to 40,000 rounds for about $3.
With a broken trigger spring, you don't have a pistol that feels like a paperweight. I have never seen a broken trigger spring on a Glock. I read that the trigger spring should be replaced every 10,000 rounds, so that's what I did. Trigger spring failure I don't want to be tempted since they are only $2. It is cheap; Especially in relation to a potentially fatal failure.
With a broken slide lock spring, your slide will slide right out of the frame. The slide lock is the mechanism you use to fire your Glock. Two tabs extending on either side of the frame flank the slide lock. The main spring sits back in the frame, and sometimes it only slides halfway. My Glock 19 Gen 4 broke after 31,000 rounds (I should have replaced it earlier!) I recommend replacing the slide lock spring every 10,000 rounds. These fountains cost about $3.
A broken magazine retainer spring means your pistol can't hold the magazine, it will come right out. The magazine catch spring on my Glock 19 Gen 4 broke after 51,000 rounds. It's a spring embedded deep inside the grip that you never have to remove unless you replace it or take it out or replace a magazine. I've never seen data on how often they break, but you can't use a Glock without one. They cost about $3. I recommend changing every 20,000 rounds.
