Hk416 10.4 Barrel - I have been shooting and working on guns with my dad since I was three years old. Growing up, I became extremely interested in creating dairy clones - and the harder it is to clone, the better. I never had a preference between army and navy clones as my dad was actually in both.
I've done all the Mk12s except Mod 0 and that includes the NSW Recce, a full set of Block 1 and Block 2, and several Department of Homeland Security (DHS) weapons.

Then I saw the tan CAG HK416s and everything changed. Since then I have been slowly working on a genuine CAG HK416D 2016-2017 with 99.99% accuracy.
Could We Either Get Variants Of The Cag Style Hk416 Or Get The Option To Change And Color Handguards?
I immediately began gathering all the information I could find. Every image I could save I put away.
My big break was on some factory new 416 upper ends (the entire upper receiver group). When I received them, my project was in full swing.
In my spare time, I work with DHS gunsmiths at the federal armory, which is where I gained my booking experience. Years of working with them and making contacts with SOF personnel gave me many standby positions and I called them all. When I realized that the project was possible and that I had all the necessary contacts and contacts, I took the plunge.
I've always thought the CAG was the coolest SOF unit out there, but the real appeal was how rare and how difficult it was to complete a build. Overall, this gun took longer to make than all my other clones combined. The satisfaction was amazing and well worth the time and effort.

From my reference materials and resources, here's a breakdown of what constitutes a weapon in the wild.
From there I caught Geissele Reef. B SMR and modified it slightly to match the non-HK below.
Apparently I had to cut the hinge ears off the throttle and got a throttle body extension.
As for the engraving, I had to buy a font and redo everything. I could do some of this myself in the armory.

CAG pistols are date coded series B pistols. For those who don't know, HK dates their stuff with the numbers A=0 B=1 and so on. I dated my BD (13) to 2013.
Also, they changed the font for all the Magwell text from the old black pistols with the early A date codes.
CAG 416D is HK anodized with little or no dye. The result of the process is pure brown 7075 aluminum. Tan ano is very easy to do on fresh, never anodized aluminum. Changing black to brown is a different story. Re-anodizing makes it a little darker like mine, but mine was done using the correct HK process.
My friend had to reproduce the trial marks; The FCG signs were recreated by a guy who plays himself.

I selected the parts and accessories from a list of possible options, so they are all CAG spec; with one notable exception - the trigger.
Here I chose the ALG Defense Advanced Combat Trigger (ACT) – because the Geissele 416 trigger is not $450 – and this unit uses a non-mass produced version made by Geissele.
HK in the US denies the existence of CAG tanned pistols, by the way, and we had to order what we needed through HK Germany by SKU only and hope for the best. The grip I chose was the HK v4, as it is on most of the pistols in the reference images, and after a few classes I honestly liked the thick shape and steep angle of the grip.
Optics I did everything. I had Wilcox gold kits (riser and FTS) with brown XPS and G33; I drove T2; and i ran vortex 1-6 which i was happy with. I made this my final choice after trying everything else because at 1x it's almost as fast as a red dot in time, only a factor or so heavier than the Wilcox and Eotech setups, and offers 6x as opposed to 3x.

I ride a real PEQ15. I could get the LA5, but as a civilian I don't need that crap, and it's not worth the extra cost either. Light: They mostly use the M600C, but I chose the M600V for the IR function. It comes in practical cleanrooms if I don't want the laser and irradiator on the Atpial to work together.
The last one would be my jar. The 100% correct can is a SureFire FA212 with Gen 1 and SOCOM collars. But they are hard to find and more expensive than the alternatives.
I currently have a SilencerCo Specwar 556k, but that's just a placeholder until my SureFire SOCOM 556RC is approved. To get a suppressor in the states you have to go through an approval process with paperwork etc so it takes time to get.
Overall, this was a fantastic build. I have to say the hardest part was finding someone willing to anodize my receivers from black to brown using the HK process; producing files for engraving and performing the engraving itself takes second place.

So far I have received many compliments on my design. Many of my friends and colleagues have already told me that even if they had the chance, they still wouldn't try what I did.
Now all that's left to do is wait for my SureFire suppressor to be approved and then enjoy the whole build. Heckler & Koch developed the HK416 for the US Special Forces as a major upgrade to the M4/M16 carbines and rifles. Utilizing HK's patented gas piston system found on the G36, the HK416 does not return powder gases and carbon deposits back into the weapon, making it the most reliable of all M4/M16 weapons.
The HK416 has seen combat in Southwest Asia, and has attracted the attention of military, law enforcement, and users around the world. In April 2007, the HK416 was chosen as the new rifle of the Norwegian Army. The 10.4 inch barrel model is the shortest and most compact option and is widely used by special operations forces, law enforcement and military units around the world.
In 2011, the HK416 variant with a 16.5-inch barrel was selected by the US. The Marine Corps and their new M27 Infantry Automatic Rifle (IAR) are in an innovative program to create a highly accurate, lightweight, and more reliable alternative to the many light machine guns currently on the market.

The development of the HK416 began with the realization of the shortcomings of the operating system of direct gas action (gas tube) present in conventional weapons of the M4/M16 type.
Input from users of current M4/M16 weapons, high-speed video evaluation, and extensive live-fire testing in extreme operational environments such as the US. The Army's desert test site in Yuma, Arizona, has identified several areas for weapon improvement.
The internal operating system and various components have been updated, improving reliability at best and worst with all types of ammunition, with all barrel lengths, with and without silencers installed.
The grip selection includes the HK Free-Floating 4-Quadrant Rail System (FFRS). Developed by HK, the FFRS allows the HK416 to mount all current accessories, scopes, lights and sights used on M4/M16 type weapons. These HK rail systems can be installed and removed. Both of them float freely and do not touch the barrel and do not adversely affect the accuracy of the weapon.

HK's proprietary gas system uses a piston-driven operating rod to operate the bolt, preventing propellant gases and associated carbonaceous contaminants from entering the weapon.
This increases the reliability of the weapon and lengthens the interval between stops. It also reduces operator cleaning time, heat transfer to the bolt and bolt frame, and wear on critical components.
The HK416 uses a barrel manufactured using Heckler & Koch's famous cold forging process; further increases reliability, durability and driver safety during jammed pits or during extremely long firings.
This unique manufacturing process uses the highest quality steel to ensure high accuracy over 20,000 rounds with minimal degradation in accuracy and muzzle velocity. HK416 variants are available with different barrel lengths (see product list).
Hk 416 Upper
In addition to improving the base weapon, HK produced corrosion-resistant steel magazines as well as a proprietary buffer system to further increase operational reliability.
The optional HK 40 x 46mm grenade launcher module can also be quickly attached to the rail system without tools.
As the leading augmented reality piston weapon system, the HK416 is unsurpassed in durability, safety and accuracy. It is also the most cost-effective AR-type weapon when viewed through a total life cycle analysis.
