Hk416 Delta Force - The Heckler & Koch HK416 is a German 5.56 x 45mm NATO caliber assault rifle. Its design was based on the Colt M4 carbine, but improved upon the M4 carbine with the inclusion of a short-range gas piston system.
Currently, it is one of the most popular rifles among special operations forces operators. This is a gun of choice among Delta Force and DEVGRU operators. According to available information, the HK416 is the weapon used by SEAL Team 6 to kill Osama bin Laden in 2011.

Heckler & Koch makes some of the finest handguns in the world for military and law enforcement use. Heckler & Koch firearms are put through some of the toughest tests known to man, and they either pass with flying colors or they don't. Operators involved in safety operations every day wanted something more reliable than what they have now, which is why the HK416 was born and is in use.
Tell Us: How Did Your Extremism Stand Down Go?
In the early 1990s, the United States Army's premier special operations unit, commonly known as the Delta Force, decided it needed a new rifle. In collaboration with the German arms manufacturer Heckler & Koch, they began to develop a new carbine. Heckler & Koch had extensive experience developing the Heckler & Koch G36 assault rifle for the Bundeswehr, the US Army's XM8 rifle project (cancelled in 2005), and the modernization of the British Army's SA80 family of small arms.
The project was originally called the Heckler & Koch M4, but that was changed based on a trademark infringement lawsuit filed by Colt Defense.
The HK416 is a very good gun. It has one big difference compared to the AR-15 family. The former uses a short stroke gas pistol system derived from the Heckler & Koch G36, while the AR-15 rifles use a direct barrel system. This design prevents combustion gases from entering the armature, exhaust and direct intake systems.
The decrease in temperature and contamination of the bolt carrier group increases the reliability of the weapon and increases the time between suspensions. The barrel is cold hammer forged for excellent firing ranges. Other things, like rails and mirrors, are not so important. The HK416 uses MIL-STD-1913 rails on all four sides, making the rifle compatible with current M4/M16 weapons.
Delta Rocking A Beautiful Hk416.
H&K designs a pistol grip with a selection of adjustable trigger groups that allow safe semi-auto and full-auto options. The HK416 features a folding front sight and a rear sight similar in design to the G3. The Heckler & Koch HK416 is an amazing piece of engineering and does very well what it is designed for.
So far, the gun has been sold in several countries and mostly adopted by their special operations forces. In the United States it is mainly used by Tier 1 units (Delta Force, DEVGRU, 24th STS, CIA Special Operations Center). The first SFOD-D (Delta Force) adopted the HK416 in 2004 to replace the M4s after extensive testing revealed that the gun drive system in the HK416 significantly reduced performance while increasing component life.
A modified version of the HK416 was tested in 2012 by the US Marine Corps as the M27 automatic infantry rifle. In December 2017, the Marine Corps revealed the decision to equip all Marines in the infantry battalion with the M27. The FBI HRT and other SRTs also use it.
The civilian versions of the HK416 and HK417 introduced in 2007 were known as the MR223 and MR308 (as they are known in Europe). All are semi-automatic rifles with several "sporting" features. At the 2009 SHOT show, these two rifles were introduced to the US civilian market, called the MR556 and MR762, respectively. Another version of the MR556 called the MR556A1 is an improved version of the old version. It was created with input from US Special Forces units.
