Sig 320 Rxp - SIG SAUER P320 XSeries 9mm Pistols for Concealed Carry (CCW), Combat and Competition: Meet the P320 RXP XCompact, RXP XFull-Size and XCarry TACOPS! (video!)

By David Crane david (at) (dot) com Mar 18, 2020 The SIG P365 XL ROMEOZERO certainly isn't the only new SIG SAUER 9mm pistol product (DR) being discussed at SHOT Show 2020. We also got to check out some of the latest and greatest SIG SAUER P320 XSeries pistols for concealed carry (CCW), combat and competition, and videotaped some of them (see below). Sean Wilbur, Strategic Projects Manager at SIG SAUER, once again showed us around the company's booth. Wilbur's favorite new 9mm Parabellum/9x19mm NATO pistol is the SIG SAUER P320 RXP XCompact, billed as "the ultimate CCW pistol with red dot accuracy". The P320 RXP XCompact is striker fired and has some cool features like the XSeries Straight flat trigger that separates at 90 degrees, ROMEO1PRO red dot sight combat otpic, XRAY3 Suppressor Sights as suppressoro-height back-up iron sights (BUIS) , reduced beaver tail grip, standard magazine capacity is 15 rounds, but SIG also has 17 and 21 round magazines available. Next up is the SIG SAUER P320 RXP XFull-Size, which has many of the same features (flat trigger, red dot combat optics, and suppressor sight), a full-size 9mm pistol with a 4.7-inch barrel. The last pistol is the P320 XCarry TACOPS with adjustable night vision XSeries flare magazine, threaded barrel (apparently for suppressor/suppressor) and 21 round magazine capacity. Cool, you can see it below. It sure would be great if Jeff Gervich, writer/contributor and chief new product tester for Defense Review, was able to test fire these new pistols at the range. As of this writing, DR has not yet had a chance to do so. In the meantime, though, enjoy the video below. Whether it's a Glock 43X, 19X or Springfield Armory Hellcat, there are plenty of new options to choose from. Recently, SIG announced their red dot equipped X-Series, called the RXP. The new RXP pistol has a few different changes from previous versions of the XCompacts that may be small but make a big difference in everyday use. Let's take an in-depth look at the new SIG RXP XCompact and its features.

I've carried a SIG P320 RXP XCompact with me for the past few months and wondered if the changes were worth switching from my standard XCompact to the newer model. Like the original XCompact, the new RXP has a 3.6-inch barrel and weighs 25.6 ounces unloaded. Like the previous model, the New RXP features an X-Series flat trigger, which is a nice change from the standard P320 trigger. Perhaps the biggest change between the old XCompact and the new RXP is the undated optics cutout and rear sight assembly. The included SIG Romeo 01 PRO is a 6MOA red dot that has a large field of view and is very easy to pick up.

The older XCompact also has a sliding cutout for the optics, but the overall setup is quite different. The previous generation had the rear sight built into the optics plate, but the mounting screws were locked into the plate next to the rear sight. Placing a mounting plate next to the sight will keep the optic secure, but will increase the overall thickness of the sight. Fortunately, the new model separates the rear and optics cuts, thus eliminating the issue of missing rear sights and general thickness issues. The new RXP XCompact features suppressor high XRAY3 night vision goggles, smaller black rear with tritium inserts and a large front dot. The MSRP for the new RXP XCompact is set at $999.99, but the street price seems to be unchanged around $899.99.

Now I'll be honest, I'm having a hard time switching to optics on pistols. I have no doubt that there are benefits to longer range and more accurate shooting with a point, but I often take the time to practice with the optics on my pistol. I've owned several Glocks with Trijicon RMRs over the years, but I never really enjoyed shooting them as much as I did with steel sights.

When the SIG Sauer RXP XCompact was released, I found it to be a great gun for learning the basics of shooting with a red dot pistol. The wider field of view and 6MOA red dot make it easier to acquire without the odd shuffling when looking for red dots. The Suppressor Altitude Sight naturally keeps your eye on the target and also meets the red dot.

During my time with the RXP XCompact I fired about 1,200 rounds out of the gun and it ran 100% even with steel cased Wolf 9mm and Blazer aluminum cased 115gr ammo. For most of my testing I used a mix of SIG Sauer 115gr balls
